Sustainable Urbanization: Hudson River Parks – 2015

For the 2015 Summer Program, students worked with the Hudson River Park Trust, which operates a four mile stretch of waterfront along the Western side of Manhattan. Students used site visits, discussions with local stakeholders and digital tools to choose a site within the park and design their intervention. Six teams of students created designs for public interventions that sought to engage the public with the edge of Manhattan. Each team used GIS software and data to analyze the local context and formulate an argument for their project. The teams created a variety of exciting and creative solutions for the problem of urban density at the water’s edge; at the end of the course, the students presented their work to a panel of invited stakeholders and professionals.
