This report, produced by the Urban Design Lab (UDL) for the use of the 125^th Street Business Improvement District (BID), aims to understand how waste in New York City impacts 125^th Street in Harlem. The history of waste on 125^th street is considered within the broader context of New York City waste and the industry of waste collection as a whole. The report highlights key aspects of the city’s current waste system, focusing on potential opportunities for further investigation with the 125^th Street BID, and concludes with recommendations for next steps on compliance, monitoring and enforcement, reducing waste, reducing truck traffic pollution, awareness, education, and publicity.
