Academic Research
Academic research at the Urban Design Lab is primarily related to teaching – in many cases as a form of inquiry not necessarily related to sponsored projects. In this regard, the Urban Design Lab (UDL) is an important vehicle for pushing the boundaries between disciplines that share real case scenarios. It also offers opportunities for students and faculty to explore particular interests outside of immediate applications. Teaching takes the form of comprehensive design studios and more focused research seminars. The design studios include engineering, urban design, and architecture students and faculty, and are engaged primarily on applied project work with specific clients and their needs. The research seminars also frequently involve sponsorship, but are focused more closely on particular topics than the design studios.
